The Commonwealth Magazine

The Commonwealth is the award-winning magazine of The Commonwealth Club of California. For more than 80 years, The Commonwealth has included important speeches and debates held at the Club, provided valuable background for the topics discussed in Club proceedings, and previewed the Club's extensive list of upcoming events. The words of speakers such as FDR, Martin Luther King Jr., Ronald Reagan, Nikita Khrushchev, Hillary Rodham Clinton, Francis Ford Coppola, Jane Goodall and David Brooks have appeared in its pages, along with related articles and interviews.

I had complete creative control over the layout and art direction of The Commonwealth magazine from January 2017 - March 2020. All issues can be read here https://issuu.com/thecommonwealth

Building Rental Guide for 110 The Embarcadero

The Commonwealth Club’s newly built headquarters at 110 The Embarcadero opened in September 2017, after six years of fundraising, planning, design and construction. We are very excited about our new home. It is a “home for ideas,” bringing daily debate and discussion of important issues into the center of our community, on San Francisco’s beautiful waterfront.

The new building has 24,000 square feet of interior space. It features two auditoriums, a rooftop deck and garden, an art exhibition area, multiple informational video screens, several informal gathering spaces, and a state-of-the-art Meyer Sound audio system and high-tech communications platform. It is LEED Gold, with a specially designed window system for cooling the building with fresh air.

I shot all the interior and exterior photos, redrew blueprints and created the layout for this brochure to help advertise the space for private and public meetings, conferences, weddings and social gatherings.

Misc. Marketing Materials for The Commonwealth Club

I produced a countless amount of marketing materials (digital and physical) for various departments and events at The Commonwealth Club. I constantly juggled multiple projects under tight deadlines with for different people with diverse tastes. Below is a selection of printed objects from my time as Art Director at the Club.

Jazz Relief

These posters are made for fictional Jazz Relief concerts to help raise money for natural disasters that have taken place around the world. The style of these posters convey vintage polish advertisements (i.e. Pierre Mendell). They each measure 3ft x 2 ft.

Bottle Packaging: Blind Wine

Blind Wine Syrah is the darkest red wine on the market. You will go blind with bliss while tasting our deep and complex flavors from our secret mixture of grapes and blackberries. 30% of Blind Wine profits are blindly donated towards blind charities, and towards an overall cure for blindness. The brail reads "Wine for the Visually Impaired."

PUP-a-TOP / PourLabs

I had the pleasure of working for an amazing company called PUP-a-TOP. Their product is a custom engraved pet ID tag that doubled as a bottle opener. Their tagline is "Bringing man's two best friends closer together."  (Dogs & Beer)

Here is a little information about the company:
"Give your pet something that won’t make them hide under the coffee table. PUP-a-TOP is a year round, light-weight, durable accessory that serves as a unique pet ID tag and effective bottle-opener. PUP-a-TOP is designed, fabricated, and manufactured in the United States. Crafted from aircraft grade aluminum, PUP-a-TOP is engineered with the active pet in mind."

The ads below were intended for print but were also used in social media.

I also had the pleasure of designing a graphic that they would be able to use brand wide in marketing and packaging.

Pour Labs

PUP-a-TOP is currently under the rebranding process and I was contracted to design their new logo and package design. Their new name is Pour Labs.

Tri Beer Apperal

I designed apparel for a triathlon team that ends their 8 mile long race with a particularly refreshing "Thirst Quenching Station." The triathlon is called "Wildflower" and takes place in Lake San Antonio, California.
